Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander & UAD OX – That Pedal Show

Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander & UAD OX – That Pedal Show

August 16, 2019

This is the audio from our video here: https://youtu.be/xWx9yqWmV5o

In this episode we take our first long look at – and listen to – the new-for-2019 Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander, next to the already established Universal Audio OX Amp Top Box.
Both are designed to offer much increased functionality and low-volume usability/direct recording potential for your existing valve amplifier. As we discuss, however, while they’re ostensibly pitched head-to-head there are nonetheless some significant differences that may make your decision much easier, should you be in the market for such a beast.
No, it’s not a straight A/B comparison using exactly the same amps and guitars – as we said they do different things – it’s more of a general overview of their main functions and features and associated tagentalities and observationalisations.
We start by hearing the straight attenuation capabilities before heading for the direct sounds.

Enjoy the episode!

10 Tone Ideas For Rhythm Guitar

10 Tone Ideas For Rhythm Guitar

August 9, 2019

This is the audio from our video here: https://youtu.be/lEsnMNK6F68

Are you struggling for somewhere to sit in the mix? Are you and the other guitar player clashing sonically and/or harmonically? If so, young Daniel and I offer up these 10 ideas for you try when playing ‘rhythm’ guitar.
As we have opined many times, ‘rhythm’ guitar is a bit of a catch-all term. To us they're just parts in songs, nevertheless this show isn’t about how to nail your Nile Rodgers funk chops, or achieve seamless synchronicity like Malcolm and Angus. Moreover it’s about some tonal suggestions that will bring interest and separation to parts in a song. We talk about volume, EQ, modulation and delay for the most part, to act as springboards for your own perfect dive into the music. Wow, that was cheesy.

If you like backing track in this episode you can buy it at That Pedal Show Store.

Enjoy the episode!

Dan’s Pedalboard 2019 – That Pedal Show

Dan’s Pedalboard 2019 – That Pedal Show

August 2, 2019

This is the audio from our video here: https://youtu.be/KypcmoEpiw0

Today we document Dan’s monster pedalboard build for 2019. It’s been in the works for some time and has changed much along the way… and will continue to change, such is the nature of what we do. It's a cornucopia of gain stacking textures, enhanced with plenty of delay, reverb and modulations. Ostensibly wet-dry, it’s actually dual mono wet - different delays and mods coming out of each side.

Please check out our other board building vids if you want more on the actual build process:

Echo Fix & Space Echo – That Pedal Show

Echo Fix & Space Echo – That Pedal Show

July 26, 2019

This is the audio from our video here: https://youtu.be/a89AIAk6Vmw

In this episode Dan and I take a listen to the new-for-2019 Echo Fix EF-X2. It’s a modern take on Roland’s seminal RE-201 Space Echo, that uses real tape for the echo/delay effects. We also include some common modern delay pedals, both tape simulation and analog delays, to get an idea of how things compare. What do we think?

Epic Vintage Guitars At ATB – That Pedal Show

Epic Vintage Guitars At ATB – That Pedal Show

July 19, 2019

This is the audio from our video here: https://youtu.be/GpJJkSBP-YQ

They say “never start with an apology”, so we won’t. Not everyone loves vintage guitars – in fact many people think it’s all a load of pish. Dan and I are not such people and so we took this opportunity to visit ATB Guitars in Cheltenham, UK and fill our boots with an afternoon of complete and utter kids-in-a-sweetshop indulgence.

There is no real point to this video, other than to remind ourselves that it’s only this very moment that ever matters; simply to do and to experience.

MASSIVE thanks to Mike and David at ATB for making us so welcome and letting us have the run of the store! https://www.atbguitars.com/ Instagram @atbguitars

Questions arising…
Q: Are vintage guitars really ‘better’?
A: No. Modern guitars aren’t better either.

Q: You couldn’t tell in a blind test though, could you?
A: Maybe, but if your brain is trying to tell, you’re not doing anything relating to actual music.

Q: That’s every guitar gear video ever, isn’t it?
A: Touché. Probably! The bit after the video in the venue or studio is

Q: Did Mick buy that Strat?
A: Not today. But one day when the day is right I will.

Q: Why didn’t you play the //insert any guitar we didn’t play here//?
A: We chose the ones that interested us the most.

We’ll answer everything else we can in Monday’s VCQ.

Enjoy the episode!

Here's the link to the main show being discussed – it was with the wonderful Chris Buck, for his latest pedalboard build. https://youtu.be/fNkdVZ2w3zU
